The surface of the Municipality reaches 485 square km and its population is 22.988 citizens. Municipality of Gevgelija is a unit of local government, in which citizens exercise their right to local self-government directly and through their representatives in the municipal bodies. Municipality of Gevgelija has realized a number of successful projects, most of which are in the area of infrastructure, but also in the economic and local development, tourism development, social cohesion and social protection, development of the sector of education and culture and energy efficiency. In the most of these projects, the municipality is co-financier in implementation.<\/p>\n

Its current state has result by the merger of the two Municipal Enterprises for Water Supply and Sewerage of Polykastro and Axioupoli.<\/p>\n

It consists of the pre-existing Municipalities of Axioupoli, Evropos, Polykastro and Goumenissa, as well as Livadia Community. The surface of the new Municipality is 923,7 square km and its population reaches 28.493 citizens according to the recent census of 2011. Its headquarters were established at Polykastro and its historic reference point was set to be Goumenissa.<\/p>\n
